Glycolic Acid Peels

Glycolic Acid is a type of hydroxy acid originally derived from Sugar Cane. It has effects on the skin. It dissolves the bonds between the thickened dead skin cells on the surface of dry skin, causing an even exfoliation of the upper surface layers of the skin, revealing healthier, fresher and hydrated skin. Skin starts to feel smooth, soft and look vital and glowing.

It is also described as a Pharmacological Peel making it unique to other types of peels. It has been clinically proven to increase cell turnover which leads to a more even skin tone and complexion by accelerating the skin’s natural exfoliation process and also stimulates fibroblasts (cells in the dermis of the skin) stimulating the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and other components of the dermis resulting in plumping and firming of the skin leading to a decrease of fine lines and wrinkles.

Therefore Glycolic Acid peels have proven anti-ageing benefits and when combined with other hydroxy acids such as Citric Acid (derived from oranges and lemons) Lactic Acid (derived from milk) and Mandelic Acid (derived from almonds) they have other benefits.

The Clarifying Peel which contains GA and Mandelic Acid targets sebum rich skin in Acne patients helping to clear pores and provide a smooth complexion.

The Brightening Peel which contains Citric Acid can reduce areas of hyperpigmentation such as sun damage or Melasma.

A series of 4-6 peels four weeks apart is usually recommended and the Glycolic Acid is tailored to each individual. Then maintenance peels can be conducted seasonally or more if desired.
